Wake Early

Lose an hour in the morning and you will be all day hunting for it.
— Richard Whately
The sun has not caught me in bed in fifty years.
— Thomas Jefferson

An early morning riser, I am an advocate for getting up at or before the crack of dawn. The first few hours of the day allow me to sip my coffee in silence and think about not necessarily “nothing”, but rather, “nothing else”.  There is something ritualist about the smell of the coffee and the sound of pouring it into my favorite mug while steaming hot, and sitting there, with the warm enamel cupped in my hands, just being.

When days are longer and sunrise is early, gazing out at the ocean or watching the sun come up over the horizon, is a peaceful way to start the day and sets you up for the hours to follow.

With no phones ringing, no texts dinging, no distractions. The wee hours of the morning offer time for reflection, gratitude and peace.
